Nancy Heney: Stronger and Healthier
Nancy Heney was fortunate that her physician arranged a Bone Mineral Density test for her after she was diagnosed with gluten intolerance. “For the past 15 years I had been experiencing frequent headaches which gradually worsened,” according to Nancy. Medical tests revealed that she had a severe gluten allergy and low iron levels.Nancy continues: “I was sent for a Bone Mineral Density test. I figured that it was a good idea to get a baseline reading—but I was shocked to find out that I had low bone density.”
Nancy is only 43 years old and has been quite active all her life. She has always enjoyed sports such as running, cycling, and hiking. As a result, Nancy was a perfect match for an exercise program with a strength component. And being pre-menopausal, Nancy had a window of time to build bone while her hormones were still in her favor.
Her doctor referred her to Margaret Martin for an osteoporosis exercise program that included weight training. Here are Nancy’s comments on the program Margaret developed for her:
“I was very pleased to be working with someone like Margaret. Margaret has so much experience and expertise devising programs for women with osteoporosis. The workouts are challenging and interesting, as well as safe. I was also happy to find out that I could workout in the comfort of my own home with just an exercise ball and some weights. I soon noticed an increase in my strength and core stability. I also experienced an increase in my energy levels.”
Nancy accurately describes the effects of a regular bone-friendly exercise program: “I am really happy to be feeling stronger and healthier!”
